Suspect allegedly linked to attempted murder of lawyer in Sebenza expected to apply for bail in Kempton Park

A 26-year-old suspect believed to be connected to the attempted murder of a lawyer in the Sebenza policing precinct as expected to apply for bail on September 26.

Sebenza SAPS spokesperson Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said the application will be made at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.

She said the man first appeared in court on September 17.

Tsotsotso said he was arrested by SAPS and EMPD officers after he and two “hitmen” attacked the lawyer.

“During the confrontation, the lawyer was shot in his abdomen. He was taken to hospital where he was stabilised. We think the matter is related to the sale of an RDP house,” said Tsotsotso.

“After making the transfer, the suspect was informed the sale had been illegal and he wanted his money back.”

Tsotsotso said the trio confronted the lawyer on Limoniet Road on the morning of September 17.

“The suspect hit the lawyer with a steering lock. Fearing for his life, the lawyer fled and entered his vehicle where he was shot,” said Tsotsotso.

“The suspect continued to hit the lawyer with the steering lock after he was shot.”

She said the two “hitmen” fled the scene in a grey BMW Three Series.

“They are believed to be between 28 and 35 years old and armed.”

Tsotstso said Sebenza investigators are following up on a lead and hope to arrest the pair soon.

She again appealed to the community to contact the police on 011 400 6000 should they have any more information about the matter.
