EXCLUSIVE: Deaf Malcolm is eager to help – VIDEO

The one clear thing that sets him apart from his colleges in the store is his vest on which the words printed read “I am deaf”.

In a month when the world recognises the abilities of deaf members of society, Malcolm Shihaxu hopes to be an inspiration to others.

At only 20, Malcolm is driven by passion and eagerness.

Malcolm Shihaxu’s eagerness to help and be part of the store has seen him not only fly through his training but also work his way up from till packer to cashier.

Members of the community might already know Malcolm.

His welcoming and friendly smile have greeted thousands of shoppers at Meadowdale Checkers Hyper.

Shoprite project manager Sasha Pillay, Malcolm Shihaxu and deaf interpreter Kendall Chaplin.

On the back of the vest, however, is the reminder that he is still fully capable of completing his tasks. “How can I help?”- the words read.
