Arbor Day celebrated

The tree was donated by Servest Landscaping, which also dug the hole and provided the necessary soil and nutrients to allow the tree to flourish.

The tree of the year for Arbor Day 2018, a yellowwood, was planted at Rand Aid’s Thornhill Manor on August 30.

The tree was donated by Servest Landscaping, which also dug the hole and provided the necessary soil and nutrients to allow the tree to flourish.

A spadeful of soil was placed into the hole by all who were present.

A beautiful prayer and a reading about yellowwood trees were done by Lynn Peters (Chapel chairperson) and tea and cake was served after the ceremony in the community centre.

Wendy Hunt, the chairperson of the Garden Club, arranged the catering, which was done by Garden Club members.

The yellowwood family is primeval and has been present in South Africa for more than 100 million years.
