Motorists can start breathing a sigh of relief as construction along Herman Road nears completion.
The project, started last year by the City of Ekurhuleni, aims to improve stormwater infrastructure in Meadowdale and reduce flooding of Herman and Brickfield roads.
Ward 92 Clr Tiziana Plaskitt said during the project old stormwater pipes were replaced with larger ones.
“The new pipes will improve safety during the rainy season and reduce erosion,” said Plaskitt.
She said only one section, at the intersection of Herman and Brickfield roads, needs to be completed.

“Contractors experienced complications when they realised municipal infrastructure obstructed the path of the stormwater pipes,” said Plaskitt.
The infrastructure includes water pipes and cables.
“To prevent an area-wide shutdown, workers needed to address the problem cautiously and relocate the infrastructure,” said Plaskitt.
“It is not a quick process and needs to be done properly.”
If the cables and pipes are damaged it will affect Highway Gardens, Buurendaal, Harmelia, Meadowdale and Tunney areas.

Plaskitt said the project should be completed by the end of September.
Once it is finalised, Plaskitt said she will start working on getting the section of Herman Road between Brickfield Road and Dick Kemp Street repaired.
