The national SAPS crime stats for the 2017/2018 period showed an 18.9 per cent decrease for the Cleveland policing precinct in the number of murders reported with a total of 30 cases.
A decrease in crime was also reported for rape, malicious damage to property, commercial crime and shoplifting.
Drug-related crime decreased by 30.9 per cent with 76 cases reported. This went down from 110 reported in the 2016/2017 period.
Attempted murder went up by 27.9 per cent with 55 cases reported for the 2017/2018 period.

This went up from 43 cases reported in 2016/2017 period.
Other crimes which showed an increase were carjacking, robbery at residential premises, theft out of motor vehicle, contact sexual offences and sexual assault.
Six-hundred-and-ten cases were reported for robbery with aggravating circumstances and 143 cases opened for carjacking.
One-hundred-and-ninety cases were reported for theft out of motor vehicle and motorcycle.
Burglary at non-residential premises increased by 12.8 per cent with 132 cases reported in the 2017/2018 period. This went up from 117.
