#CrimeStats: Yeoville murder rate increases by 50%, theft of motor vehicle down

In the 2016/2017 period 18 cases of murder were opened at the Yeoville Police Station.

The national SAPS crime statistics released earlier today showed that there was a 50 per cent increase in the number of murders which took place in the Yeoville SAPS precinct.

In the 2016/2017 period 18 cases of murder were opened at the Yeoville Police Station while over the period of 2017/2018 the number increased to 27.

According to the statistics there was a 26.8 per cent decrease in the number of common assault cases reported.

Both attempted sexual offences and contact sexual offences decreased by 100 per cent from the same period the previous year.

Additionally, there was also a 28.1 per cent decrease in the number of car hijacking cases reported.

Malicious damage to property cases are also down by six per cent from 251 cases reported in 2016/2017 to 236 cases reported in 2017/2018.

Another significant decrease was shown in the number of cases reported for theft of motor vehicles with a 32 per cent drop from 103 cases in 2016/2017 to 70 cases reported in 2017/2018.
