The Cleveland SAPS precinct saw an increase of 125 per cent in the number of sexual assault cases reported to the station.

According to the national SAPS crime statistics released earlier today the number of sexual offences increased from four reported in 2016/2017 to nine reported in 2017/2018.
The number of murder cases for the area decreased by 18.9 per cent from 37 in 2016/2017 to 30 in 2017/2018.

There was a 27.9 per cent increase in the number of attempted murder cases reported.
Additionally there was a 28.4 per cent increase in the number of aggravated robbery cases reported with the number jumping from 475 in 2016/2017 to 610 reported in 2017/2018.
Contact sexual offences also increased by 33.3 per cent.
Car hijacking and residential robberies also increased by 23.3 per cent and 19.8 per cent respectively.
The statistics also showed a 42.9 per cent increase in the number of truck hijackings from seven cases reported in 2016/2017 to 10 cases reported in 2017/2018.
There was a decrease in motor vehicle theft of 19.5 per cent.
