#CrimeStats: Bedfordview murder rate down by 80%, but more motorists drive drunk

Bedfordview had a 25 per cent decrease in hijackings.

Hijacking and robberies at both residential and business premises in Bedfordview showed a decrease according to the national SAPS crime statistics released earlier today.

There was also an 80 per cent decrease in the number of murders from five to one in the area when comparing to the same period last year.

Attempted murder has increased with 15 cases reported in the 2016/2017 period and 18 cases reported in the 2017/2018 year period.

Notably, there was a 25 per cent decrease in hijackings with 51 cases reported in the 2017/2018 period, 17 fewer cases than in the 2016/2017 period.

The number of cases of motorists driving under the influence of alcohol increased by 43.7 per cent from 151 cases in 2016/2017 to 217 cases in 2017/2018.
