To honour those who have given their time to care for others, the Rand Aid Association held its long service awards.
The awards were presented by John Robinson, chairman of the Rand Aid board, on August 23.
Numerous people received awards and recognition for the work that they do.
Manager of the Elphin Lodge Complex, Helen Petrie, received an award for 25 years of dedication to Rand Aid.
Helen, who joined the non-profit organisation in 1993, was appointed to manage in 2006.

“Helen has numerous excellent qualities which make her a valued staff member and colleague,” said Rand Aid CEO Rae Brown.
“She is committed, dedicated, loyal and responsible. Moreover, she loves the residents of Elphin Lodge and will go out of her way to improve their well-being. Her heart is in the right place.”
Despite her impressive service record, Helen is a newcomer when compared to Frans Mpete, Rand Aid’s longest-serving employee, who has racked up 43 years of service.
Since implementing the awards 13 years ago, 1 019 awards representing 9 685 years of service have been handed out.
At the 2018 awards, 32 staff members were recognised for a combined 305 years of service.
The awards ranged from five years to 10, 15, 20 and 25 years.

Other recipients were:
• Sister Dorah Moalusi, professional nurse at Ron Smith Care Centre, for 15 years of service.
• Sister Mary Steeneveldt, professional nurse at Ron Smith Care Centre, for 15 years of service.
• Tammy Neilson, manager of Tarentaal Village, for 15 years of service.
• Shelly Joy, Tarentaal Village’s administrator/receptionist, for 20 years of service.
• Adel Grobbelaar, manager of Wedge Gardens for 20 years of service.
Three men who found long-term accommodation at Wedge Gardens, Patrick Mahlelehlele, Paul Swanepoel and Roland Chapman were also recognised for the contribution they have made to the NPO.
