The case of assault against two DA ward councillors and two community members was postponed to October 18.
The case was heard at Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on September 7.

Ward 17 Clr Simon Lapping, Ward 104 Clr Tracy Lourenco, Samantha Niewoudt and Kim Smith appeared in Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on September 7 on charges of assault of police officers.
The postponement was made by the presiding magistrate to allow the defence to make representations.
This comes after the case was initially postponed on August 14 when the accused first appeared in court.

“Considering the lengthy amount of time which has been given, no more postponements will be given for representation,” said the magistrate.
“If no representation is made by October 18 the case will proceed to trial.”
The defence assured the magistrate the necessary paperwork will be completed before the next court appearance.
The four were arrested on August 10 for allegedly assaulting police officers at Edenvale Police Station.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lt Col Kay Makhubela said they were arrested for assaulting police officers and interfering with police business.
The four alleged they were assaulted by police officers.

“I had a chipped bone and a detached ligament,” Lourenco said following the incident.
“Lourenco was punched, kicked and stomped on. A door was slammed on Lapping,” said DA deputy chief whip and MP Mike Waters.
Lapping again confirmed on September 6 the group opened cases of assault against the police officers and with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
