More than 200 participate in an enjoyable fun walk

The route meandered through Tarentaal village, up to the Inyoni Creek Clubhouse and then carried on along a lovely treed pathway which led to the re-erected bridge crossing over the Jukskei River.

The residents from Rand Aid-run villages came out in their numbers to participate in the fun walk that was held on Friday, July 20.

Almost 200 residents, staff and volunteers from Tarentaal, Inyoni Creek, Elphin Lodge, Thornhill and Thembalami, enjoyed a 2km walk which started at Tarentaal and finished at Elphin Lodge.

Before starting off, the walkers were taken through some warm-up exercises.

Debbie Christen, Rand Aid’s manager recreational programmes, first led them in some gentle Chi Quong (a form of Tai Chi) movements which are known to help with breathing and circulation. Biokineticist Seugnette Kruger completed the warm-up with more exercises to prepare the body for movement and then the walkers were off.

The route meandered through Tarentaal village, up to the Inyoni Creek Clubhouse and then carried on along a lovely treed pathway which led to the re-erected bridge crossing over the Jukskei River.

It finished at the Woodlands Lapa, inside the grounds of Elphin Lodge.

On arrival at the finish line, cool drinks and delicious snacks ranging from home-made cakes, biscuits, muffins, and cupcakes to assorted sandwiches and crisps, were offered to the walkers, who had worked up a hearty appetite.

Most of the eats were made and donated by Rand Aid residents.

The walkers had the opportunity to meet up with old friends from other Rand Aid villages and also had the chance to meet new people.

Most of the walkers commented that the walk was extremely enjoyable and wanted to know straight away when the next fun walk would be.

There was such a spirit of unity and camaraderie, which proves that leisurely walking in the good company of others, is an enjoyable and social activity.
