Yeoville SAPS arrested a man for perjury on August 1 after reporting a hijacking.
Spokesperson for the station Capt Sifiso Mabizela said the complainant in a hijacking case, who was later charged with perjury, had told police that he was driving a green Mini Cooper at the corner of Hunter and Bezuidenhout roads when a white VW Polo bumped into his vehicle.
“He told police that two assailants pointed firearms at him and instructed him to move away from his car.

“He alleged that one man drove away in his car. The trio task team from the Johannesburg East Cluster was activated and reacted immediately. The vehicle was traced as it was fitted with Tracker and a suspect was arrested for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in Boksburg.
“Upon investigation, it was determined that the complainant had sold the motor vehicle to the person arrested in Boksburg.
“He admitted that he had opened a false case because he was afraid that the person he sold the car to will not pay the remaining balance.
“He was arrested for perjury,” he said.

Both suspects, who are men aged 35 and 36, are expected to appear in court while police investigations continue.
Mabizela said Yeoville SAPS strongly condemns the reporting of false cases.
