Jacaranda celebrates Mandela Day

The initiative will continue for 67 days after Mandela Day.

To celebrate the life and legacy left behind by Nelson Mandela, Jacaranda Academy recently launched an initiative with the hope of helping the community.

The school launched the save our planet and leave a legacy initiative to collect 6 700kg of recyclable materials on July 18.

The initiative will continue for 67 days following Mandela Day.

In September the school will launch an entrepreneurs club for its senior learners.

Angela Andrews, school director, said the guest speaker was Palisa Phira, a finalist in the 2017 Mrs Commonwealth Pageant.

Foundation phase learners from Jacaranda Academy with school staff and members from Mpact.

Palisa, a Greenstone resident, spoke to learners about the importance of recycling and the benefits of becoming young entrepreneurs.

In addition to learning about recycling, the learners, staff and guests painted a 2018 Mandela Day Commemoration Wall.
