Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Capt Jean Olckers said the number of cases of possession of unlicensed firearms, theft of motor vehicle and theft out of motor vehicle increased.

He said the increases were identified when comparing this month’s statistics to those of July last year.

Olckers urged community members to use the following precautionary measures:

• Park your vehicle in a secure area and ensure that it is locked by physically testing the handles.

• Don’t leave valuables such as laptops, cellphones, wallets or handbags in cars.

He told community members to contact the police if they know someone who is in possession of an illegal firearm.

Olckers said cases of theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles were reported in all sectors in Edenvale.

“Community members need to be vigilant and assist the police in the fight against crime,” said Olckers.

To report a crime phone 10111, 08600 10111 or 071 675 6841/2/3/4.
