Donations bring smiles to Edenvale’s Khanyisa Soup Kitchen this Nelson Mandela Day

“Any donations make a big difference and assist us in feeding the needy.”

Donations of kindness and much-needed supplies were the order of the day at the Khanyisa Trust Soup Kitchen.

Karaglen SuperSpar and the NEWS dropped off donations of non-perishable food items at the kitchen on July 4.

In June, Spar and the NEWS partnered again this year for Nelson Mandela Day to collect the donations for the needy.

Last year the partnership saw donations of blankets, clothes and food donated to the trust.

Several vehicles were needed to make the delivery.

Like last year the donations were made by community members who shopped at the Karaglen Spar.

They will be used by Khanyisa Trust Soup Kitchen which feeds over 100 people daily, five days a week.

Angel Mdlalose, manager of the Karaglen SuperSpar, said the Spar has a big sense of community spirit and is focused on assisting the community.

The donation drive gave community members the opportunity to give back this Mandela Month.

“Karaglen SuperSpar wants to continue helping Khanyisa not only on Mandela Day but on a regular basis.”

Items which the soup kitchen need most include starches and non-perishable foods.
