Joy to demonstrate oil paintings in Edenvale

Joy is constantly challenged to combine image, word, content and process into a cohesive whole in order to conceptualise that which she is passionate about.

Joy Heyneke will demonstrate one of her oil paintings at the Edenvale Community Centre for the Paint & Palette Group on July 21.

During Joy’s sojourn at Pretoria University and Unisa, she discovered that it is through the visual expression of creative thoughts that she was able to communicate most effectively.

Joy is constantly challenged to combine image, word, content and process into a cohesive whole in order to conceptualise that which she is passionate about.

The Bible is her greatest source of inspiration as its message, values and directives are a controlling force in her life.

Joy prefers to use personal symbols, represented by images of every day simple objects, to express the essence of ideas, explore solutions and ask questions and make suggestions rather than make statements.

Her work remains open-ended, with her dependence on, and inheritance from, the Great Creator in whose image we are all made.

Her input is thus, essentially, that of hope, healing, redemption, refuge and salvation, providing a place of rest for the spirit.

Currently, Joy teaches art process, art appreciation and creative thinking from her studio in Centurion, and does workshops, talks and demonstrations per invitation all over the country.

Joy has also participated in solos and joint exhibitions and her paintings and sculptures are found in collections throughout South Africa, Canada, USA, Australia and the UK, as well as the corporate collections of Rand Merchant Bank, Southern Life and The Unisa permanent collection.

Those interested in learning more about Joy’s technique of using oils can join the Paint & Palette Group at the Edenvale Community Centre, situated at the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and Second Street at 1.30pm for 2pm on July 21.

Entrance fee is R50 for visitors, R20 for members and this includes refreshments.
