Kensington Scout receives highest advancement
The Springbok advancement requires that the candidates plan and run a number of Scouting activities and provide detailed reports on each activity.
Kensington resident Robert Clark (18), a member of the 3rd Kensington Sea Scout troop, recently received his Springbok award which is the highest advancement in the South African Scouting programme.

The Springbok advancement requires that the candidates plan and run a number of Scouting activities and provide detailed reports on each activity.
While working towards this advancement, Robert arranged a number of activities that the 3rd Kensington Sea Scouts participated in.
For his Springbok Community Service project, he arranged for the 3rd Kensington Sea Scouts to help prepare and plant a vegetable garden at a children’s home in Heidelberg.
The children had an opportunity to work in the garden with the Scouts and also joined the Scouts on a hike in the surrounding area.

He taught the Scouts various knots and together they built a raft with a giant table on top, using poles, ropes and barrels.
Afterward, the Scouts sat at the table on the raft at Germiston Lake and enjoyed a delicious three-course meal which they had prepared over an open fire.
“We are proud of Robert for his achievement. He worked hard for this award,” said Loryn Sorour, chairperson of the troop.
Sea Scouts offer children between the ages of seven and 18 years of age the opportunity to learn sailing, canoeing and rowing in a fun and safe environment.
They learn leadership, teamwork, survival and many other life skills while enjoying the outdoors, camping and hiking.
