Jeppe Girls to head off to World Choir Games

It won’t be the first time for the school to take part in the World Choir Games.

Jeppe High School for Girls Choir will be participating in the tenth World Choir Games in Tshwane from July 4 to 14.

The school’s public relations co-ordinator, Carole Heming, said more than 300 choirs with over 16 000 participants from 60 different countries will be taking part.

“The choir is conducted by Johan Bester and accompanied by Dr Elize Kruger. It will be a wonderful experience for Jeppe Girls to be able to compete against the best choirs in the world,” she said.

It won’t be the first time for the school to take part in the World Choir Games.

The school’s previous experience was in 2008 with a smaller choir in Graz, Austria.

“The choir sang in two categories being the popular choral music [open] and gospel and spiritual [open] and brought home two silver medals.

“The choir will perform in two categories this year being sacred music with accompaniment by St Albans Cathedral on July 5 and in the youth choirs equal voices category on July 6.

Tickets are required to attend performances.
