Club provides fun while learning

JOBURG – We aim to help children with ongoing support through their school going years.

Registrations are underway at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa (BGCSA) in Bertrams for the winter school holiday programme.

The programme will run from June 25 to July 16.

The club looks after children from disadvantaged families and provides aftercare for children.

It assists with homework and also provides a meal for children on a day-to-day basis.

Marketing coordinator Sne Vilakazi said the club serves learners from grades R to 12 in traditionally idle and unsupervised hours when they are vulnerable and most at risk.

“We aim to help children with ongoing support through their school-going years. We want to ensure that they matriculate knowing what they want to do with their future.

“We don’t want to wait for them to get in trouble with the law, get involved with drugs or alcohol or to fail at school.

“We want to work with them and support them through their school-going years to ensure their success,” she said.

During the programme, children will take part in various activities including sports and recreation, arts and culture as well as life skills.

There will be storytelling, drama, games, skating, marimba and sports tournaments.
