A recent visit to Edenvale’s Drivers Licence Centre left Meadowbrook resident Avroy Flink frustrated and perplexed. He visited the licensing office on June 5 and was turned away by municipal staff when he tried to renew his driver’s licence.
Flink arrived at the offices at about 1pm but was not allowed to enter the office.

He said a security guard advised him that the offices closed at 1pm.
“Although the doors were closed, people were inside being helped. The signage at the offices states that it closes at 3pm. There are no signs to say that the offices close at 1pm.”
Flink said if the closing of the offices is not official, steps need to be taken against the staff of the licensing department for closing the doors early.
“The community needs to be informed of changes at government offices,” said Flink.
In addition to the offices closing early, Flink said there is very little information about documents needed by community members when renewing licenses.

“When I returned to the office and arrived at the counter, I was told I needed to have certain documents to renew my licence,” said Flink.
He said, like the closing times, there were no signs informing community members what to take to renew their licenses.
Flink urged the City of Ekurhuleni to communicate more with community members and to share important information.
“We all pay the municipality. It would be nice to see an improvement.”
Flink suggested that the CoE host informative workshops for the community when changes are made at government offices.

He said at the workshops, community members, ward councillors and municipal workers could interact with each other.
A request for comment was sent to the CoE on June 13 requesting comment by June 15 at 12.30pm.
At the time of going to print no comment was received.
