AK47 and other ammunition seized during operation

Concerted efforts to combat cash-in-transit heists and business and house robberies in the Jeppe SAPS precinct are gaining momentum through a multi-faceted approach which focuses on crime intelligence-driven operations aimed at putting a stop to these crimes.

Jeppe SAPS conducted an operation at George Goch hostel on June 14 and arrested a 30-year-old man who was found in possession of an AK47 rifle, 40 live rounds of ammunition and 14 9mm live rounds of ammunition.

An AK47 rifle with 40 live rounds of ammunition and 14 9mm live rounds of ammunition were seized during the operation.

“Officers also arrested three men aged 22, 23 and 28 for possession of dagga during the operation. The seized items were taken to Jeppe SAPS and the suspects were charged and detained,” said the station’s spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon while police investigations continue.

“The Johannesburg East SAPS Cluster commander, Brigadier Azwinndini Nengovhela has commended the pro-active approach the members have taken which is in line with the current three-month period of stabilisation of the recent surge in aggravated robberies in the cluster and country,” he said.
