UPDATE: “Highly dangerous” Rolex Gang members apprehended on Modderfontein Road – VIDEO

One suspect managed to evade police on the scene and the search for the suspect will continue.

Three suspects arrested on Modderfontein Road this afternoon have been positively linked to the Rolex Gang operating in Sandton and surrounding areas.

According to the spokesperson for the Sebenza SAPS, Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso the suspects were arrested by officers from the Hawks who were following up on information.

“The vehicle the suspects were driving in was hijacked three weeks ago. Earlier today officers from the Hawks received information that the vehicle had appeared on tracking devices travelling from Kempton Park to Fourways.

“The vehicle then dissapeared again and was later picked up travelling back from Fourways to Kempton Park,” Sgt Tsotsotso said.

She added that the officers gave chase and when the men realised they were being followed, they opened fire on police officers and the officers retaliated.

“One suspect was injured in the process. He was treated on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital,” Sgt Tsotsotso said.

Officers also recovered two firearms at the scene.

The suspects will be charged with attempted murder, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

A section of Modderfontein Road is still closed following the incident.

Motorists are urged to note that this is an active crime scene and it is expected to have an impact on afternoon traffic.

Motorists are urged to find alternative routes.

The road was closed to allow for the SAPS helicopter to land.
