Sebenza SAPS, Ekurhuleni Metro Police (EMPD), Invula Security and Hwibidu Security recently embarked on a crime operation.

Sebenza SAPS spokesperson Sharon Tsotsotso said the aim of the operation is to fight crime in and around Sebenza.

“We decided to do this joint crime operation because business burglaries and house burglaries have become a problem. We will focus on the industrial areas in Sebenza, Founders View, Modderfontein, Longmeadow, as well as Esther Park and Cresslawn,” said Tsotsotso.

She also said they have received a few complaints regarding fraud.

“We want to urge business owners to be more vigilant and conduct due diligence when it comes to business transactions.

“Before they dispatch items, they must first check with their bank if the money is in the account and not just rely on the proof of payment sent by the buyer.

“Most of the time, criminals buy using fake company details and they order large amounts of stock from suppliers.

“Then they send proof of payment but once the goods are delivered they reverse the payments. When the investigations are conducted, you find that the business does not exist,” she said.

She advised suppliers to be careful and to conduct research on the companies they supply to before they deliver the goods.
