Thembalami and Moda Care Centre’s Africa Day celebration may have been a little late but it was still a colourful affair.
Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity on May 25, 1963.
It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world.
When the Rand Aid Care Centre held its celebration on June 8, the dining hall was filled with conversation and laughter, interspersed by distinctive vuvuzela blasts.

“We served tea and cake to the residents. The gogos from the Zamokuhle Outreach Programme that we run also sang a few beautiful songs. When it was time for us to sing the national anthem, we stood and did so with pride,” said Thembalami social worker Lara Hurwitz.
She added that the occupational therapy department made SA flag brooches for everyone and also did the wall decorations.
