Woodpecker Bowling Club to host potjie competition

The day is all about family fun.

The Woodpecker Bowling Club on 2nd Avenue in Bez Valley opened entries for its potjiekos competition to be held on June 16.

There are 10 spaces available and participants stand a chance to win cash prices.

“People can enter as a group or family. The day will be about family fun and our judges for the day will be local restaurant chefs,” said organiser Rachelle Potgieter.

Participants will start preparing their potjies from 9am and judging will start at 1.30 pm. They will also have to prepare a table which will also be judged.

Those competing will have to take their own ingredients and there will be eight different potjies to choose from. They are oxtail, beef, chicken, prawns, veggies, lamb, Indian and mala mogodu.

Entry fee for the competition is R100.

There will also be stalls on the day to browse through. A R100 fee for those wanting to host a stall will be charged.

“We are doing the potjie competition as part of the club’s fund-raising and we also want people to come to the club and utilise it. It’s a hidden gem and we would like to share it with the community. We are doing this event to revive the club,” said Potgieter.
