UPDATE: 5 things we know about the Bedford Centre #MacheteAttack

The suspect has not been formally charged yet.

Following yesterday’s machete attack at Bedford Centre in Bedfordview, the SAPS released additional information regarding the incident earlier this morning.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Capt Andre De Jager told the NEWS that:

  • The attack followed a domestic dispute involving a husband, an ex-wife, a son-in-law and daughter. “The exact reason for the dispute is still unknown,” said de Jager.
  • Despite reports that the victim’s finger had been cut off, de Jager said that these reports have not been confirmed. “We know he sustained head injuries.”
  • De Jager confirmed the victim is in a stable condition at Union Hospital.
  • The victim is 45 years old and the suspect is 55 years old.
  • De Jager said the suspect has not been formally charged yet.

In a statement released to the media, Bedford Centre management stated that the attack was at Mugg & Bean. “Bedford management thanks the paramedics who were on the scene, the SAPS and tenants who assisted us during the incident. Should you require any trauma counselling, please contact Bedford Centre management.”

“Big shout out to security at Bedford they handled situation extremely well and made sure nobody else got hurt,” posted Marina Mavrokordatos on Facebook.
