The Paint & Palette Artist’s Group recently hosted an oil painting demonstration for community members at the Edenvale Community Centre.
Karoo-born artist Willie Jacobs gave the demonstration on May 19.

Moira Simonsen, the demonstration coordinator of the group, said Jacobs kept community members engaged during the demonstration.
She said as he painted a portrait he continuously corrected and adjusted the painting.
“It was interesting to see him use lamp oil and an odourless white spirit instead of traditional turpentine to thin his paints,” said Moira.
“This technique will be used by many of the group’s artists in future.”
