Dlali said he started his involvement in community work after he completed his studies. He has been a volunteer at Jeppe SAPS youth desk for two years now.

“After I graduated I worked for an NGO at Umtata. The NGO that I worked for offered counselling to victims of human trafficking, alcohol and drug abuse. When my contract ended, I relocated to Jeppestown. Frustrated and unemployed, I joined Youth Desk and continue to make a difference in my community.

“I also wanted to keep myself off the streets. I have realised that most youths destroy their future because of being unemployed. Jeppe SAPS is a community-driven station. I would like to help the station to fight against crime in our area by doing my bit,” he said.

Dlali advises the youth not to give up on their future.

“Even though you might not be employed, there is light at the end of any tunnel. Your current condition in life does not determine your future. Go out there and make a difference in your community somehow,” he said.
