Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA thanks volunteers

"Without these lovely ladies, the SPCA would be in hot water."

To thank the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCAs charity ladies group, the SPCA recently held a lunch in their honour.

The lunch, held at Bedford Centre on April 21, saw the volunteers and SPCA staff come together to discuss future fund-raising projects.

Stephanie Haajem, of Bedfordview and Germiston SPCAs charity ladies, said the group of volunteers raise funds for the local SPCA.

The group raises funds by running the SPCAs charity shop, hosting book sales, hosting events and selling items at local markets.

Stephanie said the group raised R168 659.50 last year.

“Most of us are retirees. We are passionate about helping animals,” said Stephanie.

“None of us can sit around and do nothing.”

The funds raised are used to cover general costs such as maintenance, vet bills and renovations at the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA.

“Without these lovely ladies the SPCA would be in hot water,” said Lesley Ritky, secretary of the Bedfordview and Germiston SPCA.

Stephanie said the next fund-raiser, a pub quiz, will be held at Pizza Del Forno at Park Meadows Shopping Centre.

The pub quiz will be held at 7pm on April 30 and entrance will cost R50 per person.
