Assaults not out of control – Olckers

"In most cases, because the suspect is known to the victim, an arrest is made."

Following an increase in assault cases, Edenvale SAPS has advised community members to avoid conflict situations as much as possible.

“There has been an increase in assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm cases compared to last year but it is not out of control,” said Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS.

Olckers said when an assault occurs it generally happens between people who know each other and when liquor has been consumed.

“In most cases, because the suspect is known to the victim, an arrest is made.”

Olckers urged the community to phone the police and report matters of violence before they escalate.

Community members can phone 10111, 0860010111 or 071 675 6841/2/3/4
