Idea of cleaning is no longer rubbished

“Be proud of your area and make a difference. Join us in our cleanups and I would also like to invite businesses in the area to join us."

Ward 66 Clr Carlos Da Rocha is pleased to see the commitment of residents to the A Re Sebetseng project.

“I would like to thank the residents for embracing A Re Sebetseng. This project plays a big role, not only by keeping our area clean but also by educating people about illegal dumping.

“Those who dump illegally now see we are serious about getting rid of rubbish. They will also be ashamed to dump,” said Da Rocha.

He said this project supported his vision of a cleaner ward.

Da Rocha declared war on dirt in his ward at the beginning of 2017 after noticing an increase in illegal dumping in his ward.

He started the clean green campaign to enforce illegal dumping bylaws and to get the ward clean.

He said he believes A Re Sebetseng will achieve its goal of a clean city.

“Residents have expressed how they feel about illegal dumping and with this project they are also taking a stand and doing something about it.

“I hope they don’t lose the spirit and that the project does not fade.

“It should be part of our everyday lifestyle to keep our areas clean. Residents have shown that they have had enough of rubbish and they don’t want it in the area,” said Da Rocha

He also invited those who are still not participating in the clean-up to join them.

“Be proud of your area and make a difference. Join us in our clean-ups. I would also like to invite businesses in the area to join us.

“I would like to thank Shaun Dennison from Valley View Lodge for his donation of a brush cutter. It made a difference,” said Da Rocha.

A Re Sebetseng was launched last year. It is a ward-based cleaning initiative that is held on the last Saturday of every month.
