Clean-up campaign gains momentum

JOBURG – A lot of rubbish that has been dumped here is domestic refuses which should be deposited into a wheelie bin

Ward 118 Clr Neuren Pietersen and residents took the opportunity to clean up 10th Street and 6th Avenue in Bezuidenhout Valley on April 21.

The A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign was launched last year and has been gaining momentum in the community.

Pietersen said 10th Street and 6th Avenue have become a dumping hot spot.

“Residents have to be the eyes and ears and report any illegal dumping. They must get the registration number and address of the culprits. A lot of rubbish that has been dumped here is domestic refuse which should be deposited into a wheelie bin,” he said.

Ivana Mauri was one of the residents cleaning the area.

She said it’s the responsibility of the residents to keep their area clean.

“Everyone must take responsibility. We can’t have a vibrant and clean environment if people don’t participate in cleaning the area,” she said.

Pietersen encouraged residents to report stolen bins and illegal dumping.
