Jeppe SAPS arrest a suspect for car hijacking

JOBURG – Munyayi said the other suspect is still on the run. The car was later recovered in Benrose.

Jeppe SAPS arrested a 28-year-old man for car hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm on April 20.

Spokesperson for the station Captain Richard Munyayi said a 36-year-old man alleged that he was approached by two unknown men who were armed while sitting inside his Toyota Prestige in Jeppestown.

“They pointed a firearm at him and one of them pulled him out of the vehicle. One suspect got inside the car and drove off, leaving him screaming for help. His cellphone was inside the car.

“The victim came to the station and reported the incident. His cellphone was switched on later and the tracking signal indicated that the cellphone was in Benrose,” he said

Munyayi said SAPS officials took the complainant to Benrose.

“The suspects were spotted walking on foot. They ran into a dead-end when they saw police officers. One of the suspects was arrested and the other managed to flee. The police found the firearm and recovered the keys of the hijacked car which was in the suspect’s possession. The other suspect is still on the run.

“The car was later recovered in Benrose,” he said.
