Infrastructure to be repaired – Rundle

"Community members have every right to feel that Edenvale was sidelined by the municipality,"

The lack of maintenance by the municipality in Edenvale has started taking its toll on infrastructure in the town.

Roads are lined with potholes, raw sewage has flooded gardens and stormwater servitudes are crumbling away.

The condition of infrastructure in the town has left much to be desired.

Over the years the NEWS has reported extensively on infrastructural concerns raised by community members, residents and business owners alike

Some of the matters reported on by the NEWS included residents taking it upon themselves to repair Aitken Road and businesses obtaining Johannesburg High Court rulings against the City of Ekurhuleni.

In 2017 the court ordered the CoE to re-mediate the Eastleigh Spruit to reduce future flooding and to prevent further damage to businesses.

Although the CoE has started the process to re-mediate the stormwater servitudes in Edenvale, little work has been done.

Ward 19 Clr Bill Rundle said that despite the lack of maintenance, community members can look forward to the infrastructure being repaired.

He said a large number of operational maintenance projects have been approved for Edenvale.

During the 2018/2019 year potholes will be repaired, roads will be resurfaced and attention will be given to stormwater servitudes.

“Community members have every right to feel that Edenvale was sidelined by the municipality,” said Rundle.

“I hope that the municipality will repair infrastructure and improve Edenvale.”

Rundle explained that local ward councillors have “done their best” to see residents’ concerns are attended to.

A request for comment was sent to the City of Ekurhuleni on April 19.

A comment was expected by April 20 at 3pm.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
