‘Sewer blockage causes pollution in Gillooly’s Dam’ – Humphreys

“We really need our residents to assist with awareness of such activity,” said Humphreys.

An oily smell coming from Gillooly’s Dam was reported to Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys on April 14.

She told the NEWS she was informed by the water quality manager of the City of Ekurhuleni that the smell was due to pollution caused by sewer blockages.

“The blockages have occurred on a main outfall section right next to the inlet of the dam.

“The water quality manager said that the Edenvale depot had reported that they had found a large stone to be the cause of the blockage.

“Water quality and operations staff are aware of the stone and took samples on April 16,” said Humphreys.

She said she believes that this was a deliberate act intended to block the sewerage system.

“We really need our residents to assist with raising awareness of such activity,” said Humphreys.
