The competition is aimed at empowering young girls to become successful ambassadors of their respective schools and to be able to reach out to help their communities through the Reach for a Dream initiative.

Tia and Jesse Platt are finalists in the 2018 SA School Ambassador Reach for a Dream competition.

Reach for a Dream is a project whereby the finalists, through the assistance of their schools, develop their own community-based project.

As a Grade Six learner at Bedfordview Primary school, Tia falls in the junior category.

She hopes to assist children who have been neglected and abused.

“I found a charity that fits my mission and is, through my school, raising, funding and sponsoring. I have also taken an interest in the charity. I am currently giving my time and assisting children with homework.”

As a Grade Nine learner at Jeppe High School for Girls, Jesse is in the senior category.

Her mission has enabled her to cross paths with a children’s home in the east of Johannesburg.

The home caters for abandoned and neglected children of ages ranging from three to 18 years.

Jesse hopes, through her school, to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by the home and has devoted some of her time to interacting with the children to help get a sense of what they are going through and ways to better assist the children.

“I would also like to spend time mentoring some of the children and other areas that they might require help with,” she said. She would be raising funds for her charity, be it in a form of money or toiletries.

The final of the competition will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria on May 26.

Anyone who would like to donate to any of the charities can contact Jesse 082 579 7034, email jesseangel271@gmail.com or Tia via email tiaplatt@gmail.com
