The Sebenza SAPS arrested 21 people for trespassing and one for reckless driving on April 7.
Sebenza SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso said a group of people “invaded a piece of land on Allandale Road in Klipfontein” on the day.
“Around 3pm a security guard informed the complainant that there were people invading his private property at Klipfontein. He also informed the owner that the SAPS, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Public Order Policing Unit (Pop), as well as security companies, were on the scene,” said Tsotsotso. She said these incidents of land invasion are happening frequently over weekends.

“The property is fenced off and clearly marked as private and that trespassing is not allowed. When law enforcement arrived, they found a few structures were installed and about 100 people were on the land and more were moving in. The alleged land invaders were informed that they were illegally occupying the land and requested to leave,” she said.
The detainees were detained at the Kempton Park Police Station and appeared in court on April 9.
“Police investigations are still ongoing. There were no injuries during arrests and no property was damaged,” said Tsotsotso.
