Local resident makes it into the top 100 Mrs South Africa pageant

Lutho Mbonambi, a local resident, was announced as a Mrs South Africa top 100 semi-finalist.

Lutho Mbonambi, a local resident, was announced as a Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa top 100 semi-finalist.

Lutho was selected out of a record number of entries received by the organisation which hosts this charity competition.

Her journey began as a Top 100 semi-finalist on March 2 where she was invited, along with the other sophisticated and married women from all over South Africa, for the first-ever National Casting and Empowerment Workshop to help them prepare for the journey ahead.

Mrs South Africa is a journey that has gained the reputation of a women empowerment programme and prides itself on producing the very best in real, relatable and modern South African women.

The programme celebrates marriage and the essence of being a real woman.

She said she entered this pageant as part of her personal development and she wanted to stretch herself and get out of her comfort zone.

“It is not an ordinary beauty pageant. It is more than that because it empowers women from all walks of life,” said Lutho.

The programme was created for married women who would ordinarily not have such a platform to compete and be ambassadors for South Africa, on a global scale.

“The opportunities and platform that have been created for Mrs South Africa entrants are significant in every way and truly creates a ripple effect across our beautiful country.

“Through the journey of Mrs South Africa, women find themselves again and learn that they are never too old to follow their dreams and become voices of change.”

All proceeds from this event will go to the pageant’s official charity, Women4Women South Africa.

Lutho has a masters degree in development economics, a B.Com and an honours degree in philosophy, politics and economics and also runs her own wedding boutique.

“Through my studies, my eyes were opened to the discriminatory treatment of women across the world, particularly in Africa.

“I, therefore, believe a concerted effort needs to be made towards ensuring that women in South Africa are educated, economically empowered and protected from prejudice.

“Working towards achieving this is what I am passionate about. My name is Lutho, which means ‘person of value.’

“I’ve come to learn that I have something of value to contribute to this world and for me, this looks like the economic empowerment and the actualisation of women.

“To this end, I hope to drive women’s empowerment through business because I strongly believe that it can be used for public service and as a force for uplifting and developing women,” said Lutho.
