‘Be careful who you buy from online’ – Edenvale SAPS

“If you feel uncertain ask the seller to meet you at the nearest police station.”

Community members have been encouraged to exercise caution when buying items from strangers online.

Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, said in recent months a number of fraud cases related to buying and selling online have been opened at the police station.

The cases varied from the buying of toys and renting out holiday homes.

Olckers said in some instances the person paid for the item but never received it.

“Before you pay any money, make sure that you have physically seen the item that you will be buying,” said Olckers.

“If you feel uncertain about the deal, ask the seller to meet you at the nearest police station.”
