Water leak concerns resident

Modderfontein resident concerned about water leak that has not been fixed even though it was reported numerous times.

A Modderfontein resident has expressed concern about a water leak that has not been fixed even though it was reported numerous times.

Sonya van Es, the manager of Lakeside Village Estate, said that despite reporting the leak several times and getting different reference numbers, the leak was still not fixed.

“The water leak is right at our entrance to the village. I cannot believe the amount of water that is being wasted,” said Sonya.

Ward 32 Clr Bongani Nkomo said he escalated the issue multiple times to Johannesburg Water including the relevant MMC.

“My last interaction was on March 20 with the supervisor of Johannesburg Water. The issue will be addressed on March 22. The team had initially planned to address the issue last week. Due to a major pipe bursting in Greenstone, resources were stretched,” said Nkomo.

Isaac Dhludhlu, the communications and marketing manager for Johannesburg Water, said a team did go to the site to attend to the water leak, but after a day or two, the leak re-occurred.

He said another repair was scheduled to take place on March 22.

“The leak is where we have connected two different types of pipes with a Johnson pipe connector, which we need to change as it cannot sustain pressure,” said Dhludhlu.
