Community takes a stand against crime and grime

“We will be marching against crime and grime - saying enough is enough,”

The Jeppe SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, the Revival Valley Youth Club and Welfare Centre and the Bez Valley community will be having a march on April 7.

“We will be marching against crime and grime – saying enough is enough,” said resident Laura De Sousa

“Crime is everyone’s problem and as a community we cannot just sit and do nothing. We want to fight for our neighbourhood,” said De Sousa.

The march will start at 8am.

There will be two starting points; one in Bez Valley at Mandeville Recreation Centre on 10th Street and the second will be from Bertrams Park at the corner of Sports Avenue and Fuller Street. The march will finish at Hofland Youth Centre at the corner of 3rd Street and 5th Avenue. The community will be marching under the theme “In unity, we have the strength and together we can make a difference”.

“The march will send a message that we say no to crime and drugs, public drinking, police killings, violence against women and children, overcrowding and illegal structures and dumping,” said De Sousa.

“We want our community to be clean and safe and we hope with this march we can create awareness.”

She said all the issues they are marching for affect them on a daily basis and this is the way they can, as a community, take a stand.

“We encourage residents to support the march and bring the whole family. We ask those who will be joining us to make colourful posters and don’t forget to bring a picnic basket,” said De Sousa.
