Thornhill residents go green

As always, this year’s celebration featured beautiful décor on the ceilings, walls and tables, with rainbows and pots of gold creating a fun atmosphere.

Leprechauns, shamrocks and a spot of blarney, Rand Aid’s Thornhill Manor retirement village took on tonnes of green on March 14 when residents enjoyed an early St Paddy’s Day celebration.

St Patrick’s Day, which is officially on March 17, marks the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and has evolved into a celebration of all things Irish.

Thornhill Manor’s St Patrick’s Day dinner is a popular event on the village’s social calendar.

As always, this year’s celebration featured beautiful décor on the ceilings, walls and tables, with rainbows and pots of gold creating a fun atmosphere.

Irish stew, mash and cabbage were on the menu and then the village’s Sundowner ladies served green jelly with custard and chocolate sprinkles.

There was a Best Irish Joke competition, which was won by Olwin Kustner, who had the residents in stitches and for his efforts pocketed a prize sponsored by the Sundowner team.

A bottle of Cognac was raffled, with resident Joseph Capelle holding the lucky ticket.
