“When residents face challenges and they don’t know what to do, MCF is the right place to come as we are the voice of our residents,” she said.

Sidu’s duty is to ensure that the forum is running smoothly and she monitors all the executive members to make sure they perform their duties.

She said she hopes to see more residents participating in the forum.

“We are calling on members of the community to be part of the forum. At the moment, we do not have enough support from the residents. They don’t participate. When we invite them to our meetings to give their input and listen to their challenges only a handful attend.”

Sidu said the organisation needs volunteers.

“We are looking for people with different skills to help us build our community. We want the forum to provide extramural activities and extra lessons for children in our areas.

“Most children walk around the streets after school and some don’t do their homework as they don’t have a place to sit and write. We are pleading with residents to help us start such activities,” said Sidu.

“We also want to have street patrollers to ensure the safety of people going to work in the early hours or those coming home late. Residents must know that we are here for them. Whenever they have problems, they must not hesitate to come to us,” she said.

Sidu said the challenges that the community is facing is high rental payment.

“Residents struggle to pay for their rooms. If residents can work with us we can change that as a forum by involving different stakeholders,” she said.
