Bedfordview SAPS issue a warning to gardeners and domestic workers

"We would like to make a request to homeowners to speak to their domestic workers and gardeners and advise them not to open gates or doors for strangers." -Saps

The Bedfordview SAPS is requesting community assistance especially from gardeners and domestic workers to combat house robberies in the area.

“In the past two months, the station has opened several cases of house robbery,” said Captain Andrè de Jager, the spokesperson for Bedfordview SAPS.

“In most of the cases only the domestic worker was at home. We request homeowners to speak to their domestic workers and gardeners and advise them not to open gates or doors for strangers. They should leave neither garage doors open while they work outside, nor doors to the house while they are working inside,” said de Jager.

He said in most of the cases, the suspects would catch the domestic workers by surprise inside the house.

“The Bedfordview CPF has a domestic workers’ forum and if anyone wants to learn more regarding the forum, they can contact Penny Steyn,” de Jager said.

The focus of the forum is on what to do and what not to do to prevent becoming victims of crime.
