Spokesperson for the station Captain Richard Munyai said police received a call in the early hours of the morning.

“Upon arrival on Lang Street, officers were taken to the back room where they found the body of a woman who was lying in a pool of blood. Her hands and her legs were tied from behind,” he said.

Munyai said she had sustained a deep cut on the throat.

“A deep cut indicates that a sharp object was used during the murder. The police called paramedics who certified the woman dead on the scene,” he said.

According to Munyai, the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased who was his girlfriend.

“The deceased is known as Malimakatso Beleme who was 29 years old. She was with her 26-year-old friend when the suspect attacked both of them inside the room. He tied them up and while he was attacking the deceased, the 26-year-old managed to untie herself and escaped.

“She alerted the community but the suspect fled the scene and has been on the run. The suspect is a Zimbabwean national known as Bheki Mpofu,” said Munyai.

Police are appealing to anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact investigating officer Warrant Officer Sydney Moloi on 083 741 3020 or 011 634 6076.
