Edenvale stakeholders combine forces in response to week of high crime by holding crime prevention operations

Residents have been left feeling concerned and shocked after two murders and a shooting occurred in Edenvale.

The three separate incidents occurred over a period of four days.

On February 4 an Edenvale pastor, Paul Kamba was shot at Destiny Midwives Christian Centre.

Kamba was rushed to a hospital where he died.

Three days later, on February 7, two Edenvale police officers were fired upon after they stopped a suspicious vehicle.

On the same day at 8pm, a 30-year-old man was murdered and a woman in her 70’s injured during a residential robbery.

In response to the crimes Edenvale SAPS, EMPD, community members and local security companies conducted two combined crime prevention operations.

Areas targeted in the operations included the Avenues, Eastleigh, Illiondale and Edenvale Ridge.

“Although these crimes have occurred, Edenvale SAPS, with the assistance of the community, will continue to fight crime,” said Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS.

Edenvale station commander Colonel Steven Moodley said the operations were held to combat crime.

“The SAPS are concerned with the number of shootings which have taken place,” said Moodley.

EMPD, local security companies and community members assisted the Edenvale SAPS conduct two crime prevention operations on February 8.

“It seems there is no respect for the law.”

During the operations, drugs were confiscated and undocumented individuals detained.

Moodley advised residents to remain calm if they are threatened by criminals.

“It is important to be compliant but not submissive,” said Moodley.

Residents are urged to ensure their panic buttons work and that they have adequate security at their houses.
