“We received information claiming that criminals were hiding amongst vagrants living in the area,” said Captain Jean Olckers, spokesperson of Edenvale SAPS.

He said after a recent robbery near the park the police decided to conduct the operation.

The operation focused on areas where vagrants are known to live.

During the operation, officers searched for dangerous items and tools used in residential burglaries.

“Some of the sharp tools we found could be used to break into homes,” said Olckers.

Once the vagrants were detained they were profiled at the Edenvale Police Station.

The detained individuals were added to a police database.

The vagrants were released once profiled.

Olckers said the police appreciate the assistance of the security companies.

“By having the security companies involved we have more manpower on the ground,” said Olckers.

To reduce crime in the community Edenvale SAPS will continue to conduct similar operations.
