Local school learners get help

Around Johannesburg, The link has 11 centres through which over 1 000 children are helped each week.

Klopperpark Primary School has dedicated a classroom to be used by The Link Literacy Project.

The project was officially launched last year.

As a non-fee school, Klopperpark Primary School has classes ranging from 40 to 60 learners in each class.

In an attempt to assist with additional literacy education for the learner, the school partnered with The Link.

The Link works with children in Grades Two and Three. Volunteers assist children with their literacy problems in one-on-one sessions.

Around Johannesburg, The Link has 11 centres through which over 1 000 children are helped each week.

Volunteers at The Link believe that every child should be given the opportunity to progress in life. Sadly, without being able to read properly, opportunities become limited. The Link is always in need of additional volunteers.

Volunteers work only two hours per morning on either a Tuesday or Thursday.

Those wanting to volunteer do not have to be teachers to participate, as training is provided.

For more information on the project or to find out how to become a volunteer contact Tina Pittner on 082 922 8159.

Alternatively, prospective volunteers can contact The Link coordinator Megan Maynard on megan.maynard31@gmail.com or visit the website www.thelinkliteracyproject.co.za
