The announcement was made on December 5 at Hyundai’s head office in Bedfordview.

The two companies will also provide additional patrol support on the N1/N4 route during this period.

Berenice Francis, croup commercial executive at Imperial, said there’s no denying that the state of road safety in SA is of great concern.

“As a leader in mobility, our partnership with Hyundai Automotive South Africa and the Bakwena N1/N4 concessionaire provides us with a great opportunity to get directly involved in continuing our drive to make road safety a priority both during the year and again during this holiday period,” Francis said.

“Our partnership with the N1/N4 Bakwena concessionaire dates back to 2012 and has grown from strength to strength. It has created safer roads for travellers during periods of heightened risk on the roads.”

Hyundai SA is the official vehicle sponsor and will provide six vehicles to boost route surveillance, patrol support and roadside assist services on the N1/N4 between December 5 and January 10.

Advocate Johan Jonck of Arrive Alive said this was a great partnership, as effective traffic enforcement is required to ensure safety on the roads.

“We support Imperial in enforcing road safety because studies have shown that 85 per cent of road deaths are because of human error,” Jonck said. “Therefore we need such initiatives in order to minimise bad behaviour on the roads.

“We believe that when drivers see law enforcement on the roads, they will abide by the rules of the road.”

Charmaine van Wyk, PR manager for Bakwena, said it takes a great deal of effort to create a safe transport passage for road users.

“We are most grateful for the ongoing support.”

As with previous years, the Bakwena N1/N4 toll route will also adopt an uncompromising approach to drinking and driving, speeding, and general road negligence.

They will be working closely with the traffic authorities to carry out regular enforcement along this route in order to clamp down on any irresponsible behaviour.
