To help women in need, Tumi Mediroa hopes to begin an empowerment initiative in Edenvale.
Women Empowering Each Other (WEEO) will focus on women assisting each other with their problems.
Tumi, an Edenvale resident, said WEEO will be open to married, single, divorced and widowed women.
“As a single mother you struggle emotionally, physically and financially,” said Tumi.
She believes she knows how to assist other women.
Tumi’s marriage ended 10 years ago and she said there were good and bad times in her marriage.
“I want to start this initiative to help other women and to get them help,” said Tumi.
At the group, women will be able to discuss their problems and hopefully find a solution.
The group will only focus on women for now.
Once the group has been established it will be open to men in need.
“The reason I thought about starting this initiative is that there are not enough informal support groups for women.
“Yes, you can go to psychologists or counsellors but it is not a personal experience,” said Tumi.
Tumi said the group will allow women to become the best they can be.
Although this is Tumi’s first initiative to help others, she is confident it will work.
“When I was working I never felt fulfilled and was always interested in helping other people,” said Tumi.
Tumi said she is planning to host the meeting on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm.
The meetings will be held at the complex Tumi is staying at.
